Marketing opt-in

Shopgate offers its own opt-in solution for third-party marketing tools that you as a merchant use to collect data in the Shopgate app.

Opt-In

Which tools are covered by the opt-in rule?

The opt-in rule covers all third-party tools that are not required to run the app and that collect customer data. Examples are:

  • Trackers such as Google Analytics
  • Chats such as Userlike
  • Recommendation engines such as Dynamic Yield
  • Product finders such as Chatchamp
  • Embedded YouTube videos

Which marketing opt-in options does Shopgate offer?

Shopgate offers the following opt-in options:

  • Default: operating system standard
    • iOS: Native request by the operating system via a pop-up on the first app launch. This activates all trackers; comfort features are not affected.
    • Android: Consent is given when the app is downloaded; all trackers and comfort features are active.
  • Optional: Extended opt-in (see screenshot above)
    • Both operating systems are treated the same way
    • Notice on the first app launch, similar to a cookie banner
    • Option to select "Comfort" and "Personalization & Statistics" features
    • If "Personalization & Statistics" cookies are accepted, the native pop-up is also shown on iOS. It requests an identifier of the device.
    • Trackers and comfort features are activated based on the customer's selection
    • The preference can be changed later via the menu

For the legal certainty of your app, Shopgate recommends using the extended opt-in! Contact us at support@shopgate.com to activate it for your app.

FAQ

Can the opt-in be customized?

Yes, we offer extensive configuration options for your individual opt-in, including:

  • Images
  • Texts
  • Display of the "Comfort" toggle
  • Display of the "Accept all" button
  • Display of the "Only required" button

Do all third-party marketing tools respect the opt-in?

Shopgate ensures that all third-party marketing tools developed by us respect the opt-in. If you use extensions you developed yourself or extensions from third parties such as agencies or software providers, compatibility must be ensured on their side.

How can I connect my own extension to the "Comfort" opt-in?

Feel free to use our adjustment for the Userlike chat extension as a reference: GitHub link

Can I replace Shopgate's opt-in solution with my own solution (e.g. Usercentrics)?

No, this is currently not possible or planned.
