Using the barcode scanner on the fulfillment detail page

How to use the barcode scanner in the web interface for picking.

For store employees, fulfilling orders can be a time-consuming and repetitive task. To make this process easier and more efficient, the fulfillment detail page can be extended with a barcode scanner. With this feature, you can quickly and accurately check whether the right product was picked by scanning its barcode.

Using the barcode scanner

To use the barcode scanner on the fulfillment detail page, open the fulfillment order, e.g. via Fulfillment › Overview or Fulfillment › Workbox, and simply scan the barcode of the product you want to pick. The system then checks whether the barcode matches a product and whether it has not been picked yet. Depending on the result, you'll get one of the following messages:

  • The product is marked as picked: If the barcode matches a product and the product has not been picked yet, the product is marked as picked and the page jumps to the corresponding line item.
  • The product has already been picked: If the barcode matches a product but the product has already been picked, you'll get the message "Product: [scanned code] has already been picked".
  • Product cannot be picked: If the barcode matches a product that cannot be picked in the current processing step, you'll get the message "Product: [scanned code] cannot be picked".
  • Product not found: If the barcode doesn't match any product, you'll get the message "Product not found: [scanned code]".

The system checks the following fields to determine whether a barcode matches a product: product code and all identifiers (EAN, UPC, ISBN, etc.). If the product has a quantity greater than 1, the entire product is marked as picked with the scan. If several line items match the barcode, the first matching line item is marked as picked.

Case insensitivity

Upper and lower case are ignored when the entered code is checked. This means that if the product code is, for example, "APPLE-NZQ" but the scanned code is "apple-nzq", it still works.

Conclusion

The barcode scanner on the fulfillment detail page makes it easier and more efficient for store employees to check whether the right product was selected.
