Apple Pay

In Germany, Shopgate supports Apple Pay via the payment provider Stripe. Your customers enjoy the convenience of a simplified checkout. In this article, you will learn how to enable Apple Pay for your iOS app.

Apple Pay only works when using the Shopgate native checkout, not in combination with web checkouts. Enabling it requires an app update. Please contact us once you have completed the setup. 

Overview

Apple Pay is supported via Stripe as the payment provider for processing credit card payments. Before you can enable Apple Pay, you therefore first need to add Stripe as a payment method. 

To check whether Stripe has already been set up, proceed as follows:

  1. Log in to the Shopgate Admin and navigate to Settings › Payment Methods
  2. The list of payment methods should contain the payment method credit card processed via Stripe

Adding Apple Pay

Please follow these steps to enable Apple Pay:

  1. In the drop-down under "Add payment method", select Apple Pay 

  2. Next, you need an Apple Certificate Signing Request (CSR) from Stripe. To get it, log in to your Stripe account and go to the Wallets section under Settings >> Payments >> Payment methods.
    1. Click Apple Pay
    2. Click Configure iOS certificates and then Add new application. A download should start immediately.
    3. Once the download has finished, cancel the process at this point. We will come back to it later.

  3. Upload the Apple CSR to Shopgate:

    1. Once the CSR has been uploaded, click the Save button to save the configuration.
  4. Shopgate will now update your app. This can take up to 5 business days. You can follow the progress in a corresponding pop-up window:

  5. As soon as the update is complete, you can download the Apple Pay certificate in the merchant area:

  6. Finally, upload the certificate to Stripe. To do this, start the process again from step 2.
    1. Click Add new application (a new CSR may be downloaded, which you can delete).
    2. Click Continue until you reach the page with the Upload certificate button.
    3. Upload your certificate and click Submit to complete this step.

That's it! Apple Pay has now been added to your iOS app. As soon as the update has been released and the certificate has been uploaded to your Stripe account, your users can use the new payment method. If you have any questions, please contact our support team.

Which customers can use Apple Pay?

Apple Pay can be used by all users of your iOS app who have an iPhone (iPhone 6 or newer) or an iPad (iPad Air 2 or newer).
