Unified Launch Screen

This feature is available on:
Shopgate Connect Shopgate Go

In an effort to keep up with Apple's ever-changing guidelines and to enable a customized brand experience to your customers, Shopgate has released a new and easy way to design your app's launch screen.

All of the existing launch screens will be converted using the new smart algorithms on June 30, 2020. If you would like to review or modify your designs, please do so by June 29, 2020.

Description

With the new Unified Launch Screen feature, you are no longer required to upload different sizes of your launch screen designInstead, you only need to add and configure the design elements once, our new smart algorithms will adapt and layout your launch screen to accommodate the screen sizes of different devices.

Configure

To configure the unified launch screen, log in to your Shopgate Admin and select Launch Screen under Design. Here you can add a background and arrange up to 2 images as your launch screen.

Add a background

Under the section "Background", you can select to use a solid color or an image as the background. If an image is used, it will be scaled to fully cover the screen and positioned in the centered.

Upload and position image 1

Under the section "Image 1", click Upload Image to upload one. This image can be positioned to align on the top, center, or bottom of the screen, and is scaled within the defined vertical and horizontal margins.

  • Vertical alignment
    • top
    • center
    • bottom
  • Vertical margin: Use the slider to leave an equal amount of margin on the top and the bottom. The margins are defined as 0 - 49% of the screen height. For example, a 10% vertical margin leaves an empty space of 10% screen height on the top AND the bottom of the screen, leaving an 80% screen height to display the image.

  • Horizontal margin: Use the slider to leave an equal amount of margin on the left and the right. The margins are defined as 0 - 49% of the screen width. For example, a 10% horizontal margin leaves an empty space of 10% screen width on the left AND the right of the screen, leaving an 80% screen width to display the image.

After you finish the configurations, click Save at the bottom of the page.

Upload and position image 2

Configure image 2 the same way as you configure image 1. If the two images overlap, image 2 will be placed on top of image 1.

Preview

After a design element is added, it will show inside a smartphone frame in real-time on the right side of the page. Use the dropdown to select a phone to review. Major smartphones are listed here.

Note: Preview for tablets is not provided, as the launch screen on tablets will simply display the app icon in the middle of the screen against a solid black background.

Activate

After you are happy with your launch screen, click the button "Activate launch screen" on the top part of the page. The unified launch screen feature is now activated for your app.

Note: If you would like to review or update your launch screen, please do so before June 30, 2020. If a new design element (background, image 1, or image 2) has been configured but not activated, it will be activated automatically on June 30. If nothing has been changed by then, we will transition your existing launch screen to the new adaptive launch screen. In most cases, the change is minimal - our algorithms make sure your launch screen renders correctly on most major smartphones and tablets.

What's next?

Your Shopgate App Manager will re-compile your app and submit it to the App Store for an update. It can take 4 to 10 business days for your app to be updated in the App Store. The new launch screen will be displayed after a user updates the app or installs the app for the first time.
