Integrating social media chats into your apps

Communicate instantly with your customers via social media chat features in your app.

Here's how it works: this integration succeeds over a link that directly opens the appropriate chat app (such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger) instead of using the current window or the in-app browser. If the selected service is not yet installed as a separate app on a customer's mobile device, it will be redirected to the appropriate web version.

You can integrate social media platforms or other pages into your apps, provided they support universal or deep links. In addition, the page to be integrated must have a secure HTTPS protocol. With an HTTP protocol, the feature will not work.

How and where are the links displayed?

Since links can be designed individually, they can be displayed as buttons or with their corresponding logos. Because it's easy to configure using a widget, you can decide where and how the links will appear in your app.

How can I configure the links?

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Shopgate Merchant Admin ( and click DesignPages.
  2. In the drop-down menu under "Add a new widget," select HTML/Text Editor.
  3. Enter the HTML code to link the desired platform.
  4. Within the code, you have the option to customize link features like the button, logo, etc. HTML knowledge is required. Below are a few examples:
    // social media buttons
    <div style="margin: 0.5em">
    <a href="" target="_blank" style="LINK_STYLE">Facebook Messenger</a>
    <a href="" target="_blank" style="LINK_STYLE">Instagram</a>
    <a href="" target="_blank" style="LINK_STYLE">WhatsApp</a>
    // social media logos
    <div> <a href="" target="_blank"><img style="LOGO_STYLE" src="LOGO_URL" /></a> <a href="" target="_blank"><img style="LOGO_STYLE" src="LOGO_URL" /></a> <a href="" target="_blank"><img style="LOGO_STYLE" src="LOGO_URL" /></a> </div>

    The sample code can be customized in several ways. Make sure to configure the code with your own data - for example, configure WhatsApp with your phone number or Instagram with your account.

    To make sure the chat opens in a new tab, please do not remove target = "_blank" from the code.

  5. Click Save.
  6. To push the changes live, click Publish Smartphone.

That's it! Now social media chat will be live in your app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't the link to the external app work?

First, check to make sure the platform you want to integrate supports universal or deep links. For iOS, you can find information here: For Android, you can find information here:

If universal or deep links are supported, but it still does not work, it may be because an HTTP protocol exists instead of an HTTPS protocol.

If this is not the problem, please check the link structure in the HTML code. The HTML section target = "_blank" MUST exist!
